SPECIAL KIDS
God has blessed City Harvest to help care for children with special needs by initiating a Special Needs program as well as an Autism Sunday School for children with learning disabilities.
Parenting a child with special needs can be challenging, as children with Autism, ADHD and other health conditions often struggle with loud sounds, bright lights, and large gatherings, making it difficult for families to participate in regular church services and Sunday schools. Recognizing this need, City Harvest launched the Special Sunday School in 2016, with a vision to care for and support children with special needs while sharing the gospel with them. This ministry not only provides a nurturing environment where children can experience God’s love and grow in faith, but also gives parents encouragement, relief, and the assurance that their children are valued and embraced, regardless of religious background or ability.
THE EXAMPLE TO FOLLOW
Our Lord Jesus Christ has always welcomed people of every kind — children, adults, and even those with special needs and disabilities. In the gospel of John, we find two powerful examples that reveal God’s purpose in such situations. When Jesus encountered a man blind from birth, the disciples asked why he was born that way. Jesus replied, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned. This happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him” – John 9:3. Later, upon hearing about Lazarus’ sickness, Jesus declared, “This illness does not lead to death. It is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it” – John 11:4. These accounts remind us that every life, regardless of ability, carries a divine purpose that brings glory to God.
OUR SPECIAL-NEEDS TEACHERS
At City Harvest, we understand the challenges and joys of raising a child with special needs, and we want parents to know they are not alone in this journey. Our Autism Sunday School is led by caring teachers who are specially trained, both in biblical wisdom and in practical ways to support children with autism, ADHD, and other needs. Since this ministry began, we have seen God’s faithfulness as many children have grown and made wonderful progress. Every Sunday from 9:30 to 11:00 AM, we create a safe and loving environment where children can experience God’s presence and parents can be assured that their little ones are cared for with patience, understanding, and prayer. We hold fast to the promise of Psalm 139:13–16, that every child is “fearfully and wonderfully made” and created with a unique purpose in God’s plan. No disability, struggle, or weakness can ever limit His love for them—or His ability to use their lives for His glory.
